“And let us not lose heart and grow weary and faint in acting nobly and doing right,  for in due time and at the appointed season we shall reap, if we do not loosen and relax our courage and faint.” -Galatians 6:9

One of the most important issues to me recently has become leadership and the way it’s done. Too often times I see people leading others to places they have always been, never wanting to change anything. A great leader is never afraid to push the envelope because it causes the team to use their individual potential to the fullest.

Here are 4 leadership concepts to understand and apply to your leadership style:

• Leadership isn’t letting the people around you stay comfortable with the same old process, but thinking of innovations.
• Leadership isn’t being easy on your team, but pushing the limits of each individuals in their strengths and gifts.
• Leadership isn’t speaking in ways that avoid conflict and letting things go by without calling it out, but being honest 24/7.
• Leadership isn’t about not putting yourself in tough circumstances, but where you have to trust your instincts and spirit.

As a leader you cannot have a mindset of accomplishing and upholding everything that was done before you, but attacking what is missing in the world. When you settle for wanting to uphold last years standard, you’re setting yourself up for failure or even worse, successful mediocrity in changing nothing about the world. Wasting your time your potential, and your team.

Jesus didn’t lead by worrying about what the people thought about Him or always trying to satisfy their needs or time constraints. He didn’t prepare them for opposition by making sure they were never overwhelmed.

Instead, Jesus put his disciples in extremely difficult situations with zero resources, high expectations, and a huge opportunity to make an impact. Why? Because He knew what was ahead in their future and that they needed to grasp the concept of great obedience before great opportunities to serve the kingdom.

We want to have great responsibilities and opportunities before we can trust God, but God wants us to have great obedience to earn responsibilities and opportunities.  If God is asking you to push the limit, push the limit. If God wants you to do something drastically different, do it. You never know what door God is opening for you because only He can open it, you can’t. Trust Him!
