More Than The Beginning

Genesis chapter 1 has more insight into our life than the surface level of seeing God create the Earth and here’s why…

We’re all familiar with the passage Genesis 1:1, “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth”, but there is something more to this that we can relate to our everyday life by looking at the verses after it. Just stay with me and I promise it will make sense.

(Genesis 1:2-5) “2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. 3 And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day.”

Here’s my point: without God we are formless and empty. We have no purpose, we feel so empty inside whenever we seek our own will and desires. We feel empty inside after the fun of our sin has died out and we realized we are worse off than when we started. We have no direction, we are formless.

Like earth, we began as formless and dark, but God wants to light up our life. God took earth, something formless and empty, and made it into a beautiful creation by adding light. Without Christ, we are living in darkness and sin but that isn’t the plan. Sin isn’t the final destination for our life. Jesus died to cover our sins. God wants to separate the light from the darkness in our life, but are you willing to let Him do it?

God isn’t done with you, even though you might think He is- He never is finished with you, always wanting to add to your life. You may be living your life in defeat thinking that you’re too old to make a difference, too old to learn something new, or for God to use you…You’re not. If God was finished with you and your life, I can promise you that you would be dead and in heaven. IF you are alive on this Earth, you’re purpose is not complete, your task is still unfinished. Think about all that God put into creating the earth.

God took six days to create the earth when He could have finished it in the blink of an eye. Why? God spent time to perfect every detail of earth, much like He wants you to learn the lessons for your life and take them to your heart. God invested time in giving everything a purpose, it was a process to His purpose. God has a process for your life to reveal the purpose to you, it will not come all at once or over a certain period of time. Wait on God and let Him present you with the things you need, allow His process to be worked out in your life and do not rush anything. If God is finished with you, He will step out of your life and call you to heaven, much like He rested from Earth on the seventh day:  Genesis 2:1-3 “Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.”

I know a lot of this may be a stretch for your to grasp, but I am looking for a fresh new way for you to understand your life from the bible.

So here’s my challenge: Are you still living an empty life or are you going to let your life be filled with light from God? Are you looking ahead in your life too much or are you trusting God’s process to unveil the purpose for your life and let Him add the things you need when he’s ready?
