Watch Yourself

“For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.” James 1:23-25

Have you ever considered the power of what one of your thoughts could do? The impact of actually following through on your vision?  Think about it like this:

Watch your thoughts, they become words. Watch your words, they become actions. Watch your actions, they become habits. Watch your habits, they become your character. Watch your character, it becomes your destiny.

You are called to something greater – much more than just an everyday desk job. You were created uniquely and specifically for such a time as this. We are the generation the world has been waiting for because we have the ability to continue to allow what’s been going on to continue or to alter that attitude put forth.

You constantly day-dream about actually making a difference, about actually wanting to have the ability to make an impact.

The truth is you don’t have to wait any longer – it’s inside of you through the vision and passions God has given you.

Do not let this life pass you by! What we call as “life” will suck your dreams and visions out of you faster than you can react if you are not willing to set aside what the world defines as success for what God has promised you to be a success.

You’ve got one chance to be a teenager, one chance to be in college, one chance to have good health, one chance to marry a spouse that supports you, one chance to equip yourself with the people you need to support your vision. Don’t waste it.

YOU DON’T HAVE TO LIVE YOUR LIFE WONDERING WHO OR WHAT YOU BELONG TO ANYMORE. You are chosen to be an ambassador and weapon of the kingdom, start acting like it. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise because when someone tells you something and God tells you another thing, God will always be right!

Follow Jesus

August 3, 2011 Comments Off on Follow Jesus

  1. “I have decided to follow Jesus;
No turning back, no turning back.
  2. Though I may wonder, I still will follow;
No turning back, no turning back
  3. Though none go with me, still I will follow;
No turning back, no turning back.”-“I have decided to follow Jesus”
As I laid on the couch for most of the day because I had my wisdom teeth out, this song kept playing over and over in my head. So I asked myself, what does it really mean to follow Jesus?
Here’s what I found.
Matthew 4:19 “Jesus called out to them, “Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!” Matthew 16:24 “Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross, and follow me.”
The most interesting thing is that Jesus asked his disciples on the spot, He wasn’t interested in them debating or saying goodbye to his family. Why? Jesus doesn’t have time to let you ponder a decision, He’s looking for someone that is ready to act now to change the world. Every second wasted debating whether or not to serve Christ in your life could be life or death to the person you are meant to witness to.
If Jesus couldn’t find someone that was willing to take the leap of faith to follow Him on the spot without giving a last hoorah of their life, He knew they’d never be faithful. I think so often times we decide we’re actually going to try the God thing, but we decide we want to party one last time, drink one last time, hook-up one last time before we try out God. God isn’t interested in being like a car you test drive, He wants all of you- instantly.
Jesus knew that if they couldn’t trust Him with taking up to follow Him instantly then there would be no way they would ever be able to do the other things He would ask them to do.
Today, Jesus is asking you to take up your cross and follow Him. However, He isn’t interested in you making that last business deal to get your last paycheck- He wants you now. Jesus wants to know that He can trust you with the small things before He gives you the big tasks with the big blessings attached. The people with the biggest impact for the kingdom are the people that have to take the biggest leap of faith.
If you’re going to allow yourself to second guess and live in fear of following Jesus, you’re going to live your life wasting your time away sitting in Church never getting a vision to do the impossible for God.
esus replied, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? As for you, follow me.” -John 21:22

Where Are You Looking?

July 21, 2011 Comments Off on Where Are You Looking?

1 Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian, and he led the flock to the far side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. 2 There the angel of the LORD appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up. 3 So Moses thought, “I will go over and see this strange sight—why the bush does not burn up.” 4 When the LORD saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the bush, “Moses! Moses!”  And Moses said, “Here I am.” -Exodus 3:1-4

What separates the world changers from the world livers is the simple fact that the world changers have a vision and calling for their life. So often I get asked all the time “How do I get a vision for my life?” Well, it’s going to have to come from God and you’re going to have to listen for Him.

Our greatest barrier to getting our vision for our life is where you look for it.  I think we often believe that God is going communicate it to us verbally, out loud, like a human voice. Or God is going to take over the jumbo-tron at the next football game and it’s going to flash or some epic dream one night is going to make our life clear for us. While there are those rare cases, it’s usually going to happen in an unexpected situation. For Moses, it was the burning bush…An everyday object, at an ordinary time of day.

Moses was out tending sheep. The bible doesn’t say Moses was praying, worshipping, or meditating on Gods promises- he was taking care of lambchop the sheep. God works in His own way at His own timing.

So what’s the point: God may be trying to speak to you in your everyday life and you’re always going to miss it because you are looking for all the wrong circumstances. God doesn’t only speak on Sundays or when you’re actually reading your bible. God is always present, regardless of your environment. You have to be willing to look for the burning bush, not just the megaphone voice.

God is always speaking to you, but are you listening? You think God isn’t real and isn’t actually worth living for because you’re looking for Him in all the wrong places. You give up on God because He isn’t in the first place you search. God doesn’t go where you want Him to, He goes where He needs to be in your life.

God lives right alongside of you, He isn’t ashamed to go where you go or be with the people you choose to be with. Jesus lived the first 30 years of His life just observing our race- it was the last 3 years that He began to do mighty works and die on the cross. God isn’t ashamed to be around you, He’s right in front of you. Stop always looking for God in heaven, lower your sight and realize He’s sitting in the room with you, He’s going to work with you everyday, He’s running alongside of you, and eating with you every moment of the day.

God isn’t this genie that only comes out so often, He loves you way more than any genie ever could and wants to be apart of your life…everyday. Sometimes we have to be willing to look for God in unexpected ways because He wants to do unexpected things in our life.

Watered Down Dreamer

Observe therefore all the commands I am giving you today, so that you may have the strength to go in and take over the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess, 9) and so that you may live long in the land that the LORD swore to your forefathers to give to them and their descendants, a land flowing with milk and honey.
~ Deuteronomy 11 : 8 – 9

Throughout our life, God blesses us with snapshots or glimpses of what his calling is for our life. Sometimes you may be sitting somewhere and be seeing a glimpse of the future in your mind or you may notice that you easily excel in a certain area. Other times, you have to heavily pray for God to reveal his vision for your life.

The vision that you cast for tomorrow is the lifestyle that you need to be living today. Meaning,  if you know what you want to do in your future you need to live to prepare for that life. If you want to be an olympian, you’re going to have to prepare and train everyday- not just the day before the race.

Once you have your vision, write it down. What is God speaking to me? What is He calling me to do? What hurt in the world do I also share and want to fix for others?

If the size of your vision isn’t intimidating to you, then it’s an insult to God. You weren’t created to merely live, but to thrive in this world as a bright light for Christ- not just exist and make a few dollars here and there. The secret to having a God-sized vision is that it is going to take God to physically intervene in your life to accomplish the vision. You don’t want to have a vision that you can accomplish without God because you will never depend on him.

The #1 reason that I see people’s life crashing and going upside down is because they get the vision for their life, but then begin to attribute their success in themselves rather than God. Meaning, they begin to water down or dilute their God-given vision with their own desires, wants, and needs for their life.

We don’t have the blueprints for our life, but that’s the way it needs to be. If we knew everything for our life, we would begin to become obsessed with the plan rather than the Planner who has our entire life planned for us.

So, you think you’ve got the vision for your life? Here’s what you need to do:

  • Be willing to serve others visions first before you ask for help with yours
  • Understanding that it’s not about what you can do, but what God can do through you!
  • Be Humble. Always!
  • Continue to reinforce your calling in life with bible verses, often.
  • Live for tomorrow today!
  • Understand that life will dilute your vision if you aren’t careful, protect it!
  • You never need anyones permission to serve God, except God!
Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him.
~ John 14 : 21

Visionary Life

June 16, 2011 § 1 Comment

And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.  For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.” -Habakkuk 2:2-3

Sometimes we forget to have vision for our life. More times than not, we don’t understand what it means to have vision for our life. We live life just trying to do the right thing as much as we can and hope for the best, rather than having a visionary life.

Having a vision for your life starts with an accurate view of Jesus. Without knowing who Jesus is, what He did, and what He has the potential to do through your life than you are unable to have vision for your life.

If you don’t know who Jesus is than you are unable to know His promise for your life. The bible tells us in John 14:12 “I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.” Jesus promised us that we can do even greater things than He did. Obviously, we aren’t able to put the weight of the world.

If you aren’t strengthening your relationship with Jesus, you’re going to miss out on a lot. You can have religion, but not have Jesus. You can go to church, but not have a relationship with Jesus.

Living a visionary life requires a high value of faith, but enables you to live audaciously and confidently. Yet, it requires a high level of sacrifice and commitment to Jesus. Having visions for your life requires you to be confident in the promises that Christ has for you.

Still confused?

Having the ability to be patient to receive and to see one come to pass is key. Billy Graham had a vision for his life at 19 that God would use him in a mighty way. Later he would be responsible for over 1 million salvations. Steven Furtick at age 16 had a vision for his life that God would use him. 13 years later, Steven is pastoring one of the fastest growing churches in America and has lead over 11,000 salvations in 5 years as a church.

So what does Billy Graham and Steven Furtick have to do with your life? They sought God for a vision for their life at a young age and received it, but it took years and years for it ever to pass. God may be speaking to your right now about your life and your future, but you’re doubting His promise because it’s not a here and now vision. Ask God to give you faith and to trust what He says.

So what if people make fun of you? So what if someone stops being your friend because you begin to work towards the vision for your life. Everyone stepped out of Paul’s life in the bible before God used Him. For over 3 years, Paul didn’t have any friends. He would later be one of the most influential people in the bible.

Live, Listen, Learn. Live your life according to His purpose for your life. Listen for His guidance and vision for your life. Learn from your mistakes and what the bible has to say about living a visionary life.

“Once you spoke in a vision, to your faithful people you said: “I have bestowed strength on a warrior; I have raised up a young man from among the people.” Psalm 89:19

Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6

“He said, “Listen to my words: “When there are prophets of the LORD among you, I reveal myself to them in visions, I speak to them in dreams.” Numbers 12:6

Eye Doctor

We often times run away from something you shouldn’t because we’re scared.

1. VISION begins with an accurate view of Jesus

Acts 26: Paul doesn’t recognize who Jesus is until Jesus knocks him off the horse. Jesus is not your homeboy, Jesus is your savior who died for you in the most painful way possible. I don’t think your homeboy would do that for you, seriously!   In order to know what God wants, we have to know who he is. God puts his SUPER on your NATURAL= You become unstoppable

2. VISION calls us to action

When the alarm goes off in your home, you’re not just going to sit around.    Take action, Jesus responded to the alarm God put in his life by dying on the cross.  People often use prayer as an excuse to not act on something and delay further “I am waiting on God” No you’re not, God isn’t Forrest Gump. He’s right here.  There are actions in your life that God is calling you to do that doesn’t need waiting.   You do not have to pray whether or not it’s right that you’re having sex  -Acts 26: Jesus told Paul “Get up and stand on your feet”; you know God wants you    -We often say “other people can do things for God because I just have such a dark past that God will never want to use me”  Jesus died on the cross for your sin, your sins were known before you were even created on this planet.
”Get up!!!” Rahab was a prostitute and Paul was a murderer, you have no excuse . Before God can tell you what to do next, you have to do what’s at hand now. If God is ever done with you, he will kill you. Moses wasn’t called to lead the israelites out of Egypt until he was 80 years old.

3) VISION will impact me personally

– Verse 18: Jesus tells Paul everything He wants him to do and tells him it will be painful. You have to see it, you have to blind the selfish desires to see what God wants. –What would you be willing to do for God if you knew you wouldn’t fail? -You’re a coward if you don’t do the thing that is your answer to that question. You can’t tell God this is my agenda, please bless it. He comes first, always. You have to feel it: it is not our life, we don’t own it- give it all back to Him. We cannot follow someone that had nails put through him and was whipped and expect that it’s going to be easy and joyful.

Don’t ever give up on the God that has never given up on you. God is not finished with you yet. The bible says to believe in Jesus because Jesus promised us that if we believe in Him, we can do even greater things than what He did. Jesus had a virgin birth -Jesus conquered death -Jesus fed 5,000 with nothing If what He said is true….Then what are we capable of in the year 2011?
